In life, we’re constantly navigating the positives and negatives, the ups and downs. It’s a kind of dance we all do, whether we realize it or not.
This piece explores the phrase “time and space” as it’s used in hockey: the art of knowing when to make a move and when to hold back, how to make use of the space you are given in that moment.
Lately, my work has made use of the negative space just as much as the positive space. How far can I push the detail in negative space before it takes away from the positive space? How does the space define the subject matter, and how timing shapes our actions.
This painting is a playful reflection on that idea. A nod to the sport, yes—but also to the way we move through life, carving out our own rhythm in the chaos.
